What are the dates of the next Festival?

The next Festival of Faith and Writing is scheduled for April 14-16, 2016, at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It officially opens about noon on April 14 and officially closes about 9 p.m. on April 16.

Do I have to be a writer to attend the Festival?

Certainly not. The Festival is designed to be a place where readers and writers can come together to participate in the ongoing discussion about faith in our world today. Authors, readers, and anyone interested in religion and spiritual understanding as it relates to literature is invited to join us and be part of the celebration.

How do you decide which authors to invite?

Our mission statement will give you a good idea of where we stand with that. We are always eager for your suggestions. Contact us with any comments or ideas for people you'd like to see invited to future Festivals.

What is included in a Festival registration?

Festival registration includes all concurrent sessions and all keynote lectures. The registration fee does not include meals, lodging, or tickets for any evening concerts and evening theater performances.

How much is registration if I can attend Festival for only one day?

We are unable to provide reduced registrations for people who can attend Festival 2016 for only one day. Full registration is required to attend Festival sessions.

What if I want to hear only one speaker?

Individual tickets for the keynote lectures will be on sale through the Calvin College Box Office (616-526-6282). All other sessions are available only with a Festival registration.

If I am a student but do not attend Calvin College, do I still qualify for the student rate?

Yes. Students from any school – whether high school, college, or graduate school – qualify for the student registration rate.

Are school groups welcome at the Festival of Faith & Writing keynote events?

Yes, we welcome people of all ages to attend talks by our keynote speakers. Tickets are available through the Calvin College Box Office.

Is on-campus lodging available?

A limited amount of on-campus housing is available for students from other universities, colleges, and high schools only. If you are a student who is interested in staying on campus, please contact the Festival office (ffw@calvin.edu). On campus lodging for 2016 is full. All rooms in the Prince Conference Center are reserved for our speakers and are not available to the public.

Where can I get video/audio recordings of past Festival sessions?

You may contact the Festival office to find out if there is a recording of the event. Due to contractual obligations, most recordings are either limited to Festival attendees, or not available to the public.

Is there a registration deadline?

Registration will be open until we reach capacity.

What are my payment options?

We accept check or credit card (online via PayPal).

When I select the pay-by-credit-card option, I am brought to a PayPal site. Is my information secure?

Yes, you can be assured that your personal information and credit card information are protected. If you prefer not to provide your credit card information online, however, please select the pay-by-check option, which will allow you to submit your registration information online and follow up by mailing in a check to complete the registration process.

Do I have to sign up for a PayPal account in order to pay with a credit card?

If you do not have a PayPal account, you can still register with a credit card. When you are taken to the PayPal payment page, just select the “continue” option in the section, “Don’t have a PayPal account?”

How do I get a receipt?

If you choose to pay by credit card, PayPal will send payment confirmation by e-mail. That e-mail will serve as your official receipt. If you choose to pay by check, a confirmation e-mail will be sent once we receive payment. That e-mail will serve as your official receipt.

How much is registration if I can attend Festival for only one day?

We are not able to provide reduced registrations for people who can attend Festival 2016 for only one day. Full registration is required to attend Festival sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend the Festival and notify us by March 15, 2016, we will refund 50 percent of your registration fee. We are unable to issue any refunds on or after March 16, 2016. Cancellation requests must be received in writing (either by postal or electronic mail). Please include your full mailing address.

Do you offer any discounts on registration?

Scholarships are available for Calvin Honors Program students, current Calvin students, and Calvin alumni.  We also offer discounts for teachers bringing student groups and for other organized groups (from libraries, schools, churches, book clubs, writing groups, etc.) with six or more members. More information will be forthcoming.

What do I do if I have received a scholarship or am planning to apply for one?

Please submit your scholarship application form to the appropriate office first and wait for approval. If your application is approved, you will then be given a code that can be entered into the online registration form. Please do not register for the Festival until you have received approval – and a registration code – from the appropriate office.

My group would like to take advantage of one of your group discount program. How do we register as a group?

If you would like to take advantage of a group discount, please e-mail the Festival office at ffw@calvin.edu with the name of your group and the names of the individuals in your group. We will then send you a unique registration code that your group can use to register at the discounted rate.

Do I need to decide on my hotel accommodations prior to registering?

If you will be utilizing Festival’s shuttle service to selected area hotels, you will need to indicate on the registration form which hotel you will be staying at. If you will not be using the shuttle service, however, you do not need to indicate your hotel choice.

What if I am unable to register online?

Please call the Festival office at 616.526.6770, and we will be more than happy to assist you with your registration.
