Margarita Pintado is an assistant professor of Spanish at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, where she also teaches creative writing courses. She has two published books of poetry, Ficción de venado/Fiction of the Deer and Una muchacha que se parece a mí/A Girl Who Looks Like Me, which won first prize in the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture’s 2015 Literary Award in the Poetry category. Pintado is currently working on her third book, Un efecto de mar/The Sea Effect.
Pintado has three blogs: two for her poetry (desvalijados.blogspot.com and avedepasomargaritapintado.blogspot.com) and one in which she collaborates with the Cuban writer Lorenzo García Vega, whom she met while writing her dissertation on him (pingpongzuihitsu.blogspot.com). Set up like an epistolary novel, this blog, called, Ping-Pong Zuihitsu, is a playful yet literary correspondence between the two writers.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Pintado studied journalism at the Universidad de Puerto Rico and received her MA and PhD in Spanish from Emory University.
