Luis Alberto Urrea

Luis Alberto Urrea is the award-winning author of 13 books, including The Hummingbird's Daughter, The Devil's Highway and Into the Beautiful North. Born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and American mother, Urrea has used the theme of borders, immigration, and search for love and belonging throughout his work. The Devil's Highway, his 2004 non-fiction account of a group of Mexican immigrants lost in the Arizona desert, won the 2004 Lannan Literary Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the Pacific Rim Kiriyama Prize. A member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame, Urrea is a creative writing professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
