Leila Aboulela

Recipient of the 2000 Caine Prize for African Writing, Leila Aboulela is the author of a short-story collection and three novels: The Translator, Minaret, and, most recently, Lyrics Alley, which was longlisted for the Orange Prize. Her works are often centered on the emotional, spiritual, and practical cultural complexities faced by Muslim immigrants. In addition to her short stories and novels, Aboulela has written several radio plays, including The Mystic Life and The Lion of Chechnya. Additionally, her work has been published in the Virginia Quarterly Review, Washington Post, and Granta. Aboulela grew up in Sudan and now lives in Qatar.
