Jaap van Heusden
Born in Utrecht, Jaap van Heusden is a filmmaker, trained at the Dutch Filmacademy, graduating as a director in 2005. His film Een ingewikkeld verhaal, eenvoudig verteld (A Complicated Story, Simply Told), was shortlisted for the Student Academy Awards. Since then he has directed and screenwritten several short films, documentaries, and plays. His debut feature film, Win/win was selected by 25 international film festivals and won van Heusden the Prix Europe for Best Screenplay. Two short 40-minute films followed in 2011 and 2012. His second feature film, De nieuwe wereld, premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2013 and was awarded a Signis award at the Washington Film Festival. One of van Heusden’s recent projects is De Verloren Zoon, an award-winning adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s short story “The Lame Shall Enter First,” set in the contemporary Netherlands.
