David VanBiema
Award-winning journalist David Van Biema served as Time’s chief religion writer from 1998 to 2008. His many cover stories on religious topics, including the historic Jesus, Mormonism, Rick Warren, and T.D. Jakes, have helped keep issues of faith and culture in the public conversation. Prior to working at Time, Van Biema was a senior writer at People Magazine, The Washington Post Sunday Magazine, and Life Magazine. Currently a contract writer for Time, he lives in Manhattan with his wife and son, and is working on a book about the Psalms. Van Biema lightheartedly calls himself “a secular Jew who occasionally backslides into practice.”
