Anne Lamott

Anne Lamott is the author of several best-selling books of nonfiction, including Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers; Operating Instructions, an account of life as a single mother during her son’s first year; and Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. Her seven novels include Hard Laughter, Blue Shoe, Crooked Little Heart, and Imperfect Birds. She has also written three collections of autobiographical essays on her spiritual journey: Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith, Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith, and Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith. The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Lamott was the subject of the documentary Bird by Bird with Annie, by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock. Lamott has taught at the University of California at Davis and has been inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Her new book, Stitches: A Handbook on Meaning, Hope and Repair, was published in October.
