Scott Cairns is a professor of English and director of creative writing at the University of Missouri. His poems and essays have appeared in Poetry, Image, The Paris Review, The Atlantic, New Republic, and many other publications. His newest poetry collection is Idiot Psalms. Other recent books include his spiritual memoir, Short Trip to the Edge: Where Earth Meets Heaven--A Pilgrimage, and a book-length essay, The End of Suffering: Fnding Purpose in Pain. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006, and received the Denise Levertov Award in 2014. He currently lives in Columbia, Missouri with his family.
